MXL USB Recorder is free software for recording sounds. It is used specifically for Marshall Electronics Microphones and Adapters, although I was able to use it with other brands. USB Recorder is designed to simulate a digital and analog recorder. I found that the quality of the sound is excellent, no matter whether the recordings are made on a desktop or on a laptop computer. It is very easy to install and does not require any special setup.
The USB recorder can be used as a tool for podcasting, multimedia, news and broadcast applications. The interface is very simple and easy to use. It consists of one screen with a graph showing the frequency of the sound. There are three buttons -RECORD, PLAY, and STOP. The input and output devices are also displayed. The audio file is recorded as a WAV file, which can easily be transferred to CD by using CD burning programs.
I found that one major advantage is that with the help of this program I could capture high-fidelity sound without having the necessary professional studio equipment or software. The Input device is always fixed at 44.1/16 bit mono or stereo, which is also shown on the recording menu. The minimum condition for using this program with the aim to record is to have a USB microphone plugged into your computer.
